Yes, Sauvignon Blanc reigns over these two islands but New Zealand is not just limited to this grassy, tropical fruited white wine. While we don’t see many red’s here in the US, they are well known for producing Pinot Noir, Syrah, Grenache and much more.

Don’t worry, there will be much more than Sauvignon Blanc!

From Grüner Veltliner to Zweigelt, Austria is a Sommelier’s golden ticket. Grüner Veltliner is a perfect representation of what Austria has to offer; Grüner can be shown as a fun, light and crisp white but can also be aged, savory and packed with umami notes.

While Austria is seen as one of the best wine countries today, a bit of controversy has hung over the industry, forcing somewhat of a renaissance in the mid 80’s.

The German grape variety, that generated a fair amount of controversy of the years.

Some people love it, although most people are skeptic… At least in this part of the world. We would like to use this opportunity and explain the basics, including a deeper dive into the sweeter and dry style of Riesling.

Rarely do we find a grape that offers such charm at youth but can age for decades if so chosen by the producer.

Take a chance on it and give Riesling a good try, we would argue that this might be a game changer.

What it offers today is well worth anyones time! Blends you haven’t seen before, futuristic winemaking techniques but also a very different climate and terroir resulting in wines with true identity. The wine regions from Mexico will have plenty to offer and we will use the knowledge and heritage of our dear friend Miguel to give you more insight about some must have labels in your own cellar.

Taking Malbecs under the loupe

We are well aware that there is a lot more to Argentina than just Malbec.

Salta in the north offers fantastic Torrontés, the Uco Valley convinces wine critics throughout the world that not just Malbec can thrive there and international white varieties produce anything from fun to more serious and cellar worthy wines.

With that said, our focus will remain with Malbec! It is intriguing how this variety compares when tasting it from different wine regions within this vast country. High dessert, glaciated peaks and yet a sunny climate, this country is set up to make some of the most unique wines in the world.

Let’s taste them for ourselves!

Chile may be a New World country, but don’t call its wine industry young. While there has been an explosion of quality Chilean wine appearing stateside over the past 30 years, its first grapevines were planted as early as the 1500s.

In this session we will focus on Chile’s expression of Cabernet Sauvignon and of course the all too famous Chilean Carménère. Aside from that, there are other Bordeaux varieties that we will feature during this fun session!

We are so excited to be hosting Burgundian winemaker Aline Beauné here at the wine bar!

Aline has grown up in Burgundy surrounded by wine and after many years of learning the trade and making wine, she took over her families vineyards, producing Chardonnay, Aligote and Pinot Noir. Now she is making her own wine in the heart of Burgundy.

We are very excited to host her and allow her to share her experiences and stories with you all!

Exploring Sherry with Trevor

Recently a regular reminded me that I was way overdue for another Sherry class. So here we are! Sherry has always been one of my favorite beverages, it has such a unique aroma and flavors, simply something that most people haven’t experienced before.

The first thing that one should expect from this class, you will not be trying a 5 different sweet wines. There are many different styles of Sherry and most of them are really dry (arguably the driest in the world, will explain why in the class!) We will be discussing all of the main styles, regions, the unique aging process and all the winemaking techniques that make Sherry so special.

So join me for a Sunday Sherry Session and explore the many different styles, from Fino to Palo Cortado and all that lies in between.

The mountain range that separates the two wine giants France and Spain has been a significant influence to the bordering wine regions for centuries.

To name a few… Navarra, the Basque Region, Rousillon and Jurancon have nothing in common, expect the mountains that stand close by.

This class will be a perfect start in the warm season, with salty whites, refreshing bubbles, and acid driven reds with a slim body. #drinkseasonal =)

We will dig deeper into a few selected regions but put an emphasis on the effect of the Pyrénées in collaboration with the proximity to the ocean.

Join us for this journey and see what you can pop on your next backporch gathering.

We finally found access to a great greek wine selection and couldn’t be more stoked to show you some ‘local wines’. Wine Sessions (virtual): Wine Regions of the Future
from $39.00

In this session, we will be highlighting regions that may not be so common now but show serious growth and potential. Regions that are facing climate change and are more suitable for grape growing or regions that are taking on a cultural shift and becoming more popular. England opened up their 170th winery in 2019, a country that is making a name for quality sparkling wine. Canada is a great example of a country breaking out of the sweet wine stereotype and making high quality Merlot.

We will be highlighting 5-6 regions that we expect to be more and more common, places that you and I will see more wines being made and imported into the US.

This class will be held virtually on February 27th from 1pm to 3pm. We will be providing 6 wines in tiny 2oz bottles, these will be ready for pick up on February 26th after 4pm. The class will be held through zoom and we will provide a link several days in advance.
